What an exciting day! Over the last two days, we have been exploring pumpkins. We have made observations using our senses of both outside and inside of the pumpkin.

Please ask your child: what did the pumpkin look like, feel like, smell like, and sound like? Did it feel different on the inside? How would you describe the inside of the pumpkin?

This afternoon we also estimated how many seeds were inside! How many do you think there are here?

Jared thought we should count by 10's. When we did this we came up with 387!

We decided to count again by giving each student a bunch to count. When we added up all these numbers we got 384!

What other ways could we have counted out pumpkin seeds?

Mrs. Queen brought in some smaller pumpkins today for a special science experiment. We made predications on which pumpkins would sink or float.  Can you guess what happened to each of these pumpkins?
We tested each pumpkin....and boy were we surprised by what happened! Ask your child what happened!

Students in room 1 have been reading and discussing the book Stellaluna by Janell Cannon. The story is about a fruit bat who looses her mother and lands in the nest of baby birds where she must adapt to being a bird instead of a bat. It is a story about the mystery of how we are all different from each other yet also alike. The students have been writing about the story and creating illustrations.
