In previous posts, we had shared that students have been learning about different plants and their life cycles. In our Little Green Thumbs garden, we have a variety of herbs and vegetables which we hope to eat during the next few weeks. For example, the Purple Peacock Beans have matured and we plan to harvest them tomorrow. At this time, we will cook, observe the changes and taste the beans.

This afternoon, a brief note was sent home with your child. Please read and indicate if your child can participate in the eating of the beans and future food samples. Thank you.

One of the sunflower plants is taller than all of the students in our three classes.

On Friday May 15th,
students will not attend school.

In preparation for our trip to the Calgary Zoo and the Penguin Palooza program we have been doing researching on different species of penguins. We have also incorporated the theme of penguins into our math program. After reading the book 365 Penguins by Jean-Luc Fromental we used our math skills to help the family in the story solve their penguin problems. A family finds a penguin mysteriously delivered to their door every day of the year. At first the family finds the penguins cute but as they pile up they become a problem. Feeding and housing all these birds turns into a mathematical problem which students in our classes were encouraged to solve.

What an amazing day!

Today we had the wonderful opportunity to visit the Calgary Zoo and participate in the Penguin Palooza program.

We learned all about the pengiuns at the Calgary Zoo - some facts we already knew!

We also had a chance to identify some butterflies in the Enmax Conservatory - we're super excited to get our own butterflies soon!

We also got to see hippos, giraffes, zebras, lions, tigers, bears oh my!

Here are some picture we captured throughout the day...

Thank you again to all of the volunteers that were able to join us - we wouldn't have been able to go without you!!!!
