'Good Friday' - April 3rd
No School

Monday - April 6th
PD day - No school for students

Home Experiments  -   Exploration of Liquids

Though it’s taking place all around us everyday, the process in which water changes into a vapor or gas, never ceases to amaze. If your family is interested in observing this process through two simple experiments, please follow the direction.

1. Covered and Uncovered Containers

Find two identical containers.
Mark a water line on the side of each container with a marker.
Place in a secure area and fill with water to the line.
Place cover over one of the containers.

In the next few days, what do you think will happen?

Keep checking the water levels over the next week.
What are your observations?
What do you think caused these changes?

2. Sun and Shade

Find two identical containers.
Mark a water line on the side of each container with a marker.
Place one container in the direct sunlight and fill with water to the line.
Place the second container in the shade and fill with water.

In the next few days, what do you think will happen?

Keep checking the water levels over the next week.
What are your observations?
What do you think caused these changes?

Here is a fun song to practice with your child!

April Newsletter came home today! Click here to view it online http://schools.cbe.ab.ca/b239/news.htm

The virtue for April is Forgiveness! Being forgiving is giving someone another chance after they have done something wrong, knowing that everyone makes mistakes. It is making amends instead of taking revenge. It is important to forgive yourself, too. Forgiving yourself means to stop punishing yourself or feeling hopeless because of a mistake. Forgiveness is moving ahead; ready to act differently, with compassion for yourself and believing that you can change. If someone repeatedly hurts you, forgiving them won't help. You will need to stop giving them changes to hurt you.

We are continuing to talk more about the water cycle. Here is a link you can visit with your child.

Please ask your child: What is evaporation

Sink or Float?

Image result for sink or float

Today in science we explored different objects and predicted which ones we thought would float on water and which ones would sink. Many of us thought that the heavy objects would sink and the lighter ones would float. We were very surprised with our results. Ask me what I learned.

Reminder:

No school on Friday April 3rd.

This morning, students were able to see a lot of condensation build-up inside the terrariums that they had made before the Spring Break.

What caused the water to form into little droplets?
How did the water move form the soil onto the sides of the bag?

When we touched the outside of the bags,
water started running down to the bottom.
This looked like rain falling.
(Precipitation)

We have filled up a marked container with water.
We will be observing 'how much water in in the container
over the next few days'.
(Evaporation)

Students have been reading books and watching video clips that demonstrate the Earth's water cycle.
The water cycle of our terrariums helps us to more fully understand our environment.
