Senses!
Grade 1/2 students have been using their senses a lot this week! Today we explored our classroom and looked for things that were smooth, soft, hard, and sharp! Here are some things we gathered.
Here are some sharp things we found

Here are some soft and squishy things we found

This weekend, we encourage all students to find fluffy things, squishy things, and cold things! Make a list and bring them to school on Monday!

Worms
Our worms are growing and they're hungry! Our scientists in grade 1/2 were curious to know more about the worms. We used our senses to make our scientific observations.
Please ask your child: what are some things that the worms eat? What do the worms do when we open the bucket? Why do they do this!?

iPad Club
Mrs. Johl and Ms. Toor are offering the iPad club on Tuesday's starting next week. Due to our limited number of iPads, only 20 students will are able to join this round. 6 or 7 students from each class were sent home with permission forms. If you give permission for your child to attend this club, please fill out the form sent home and send a healthy lunch with your student each Tuesday. If your child normally goes home for lunch, they are welcome to stay at no cost. If your child goes to daycare for lunch, please pack them a lunch and advise the daycare of their absence Tuesday at lunch.

If your child did not come home with a form they will have an opportunity to join another club in the new year!
If you have any questions or clarification on this, please talk to Ms. Toor (sktoor@cbe.ab.ca)

Learning about our Senses  -  Taste

The students of Grade 1&2 have been learning about the five senses that we use to learn about our environment.  We have learned some new facts and vocabulary in the book The Sense of Taste by Eileen Weiss.

As well, students have tasted and described a number of fruits and vegetables and used some of these words to describe the taste.

Please practice using these words when describing foods at your home.

Salty             Bitter              Sour             Sweet               Spicy

Hot Soup Tomorrow

The soup has been delicious! If your child is still hungry,
please bring a sandwich, buns or some other extra food.

If your child did not return the form but would like to join,
please write a note and send it to school.
