Painted Lady Butterflies
We had a wonderful surprise this morning! A painted lady butterfly emerged!

We aren't quite sure when it emerged, but we knew to give it some food right away! Please ask your child: what food did we provide our butterfly? Why did we give them this food?

We still have many butterflies waiting to emerge...we wonder when this will happen?

We also read the book...
It had so many interesting facts!
What is the scientific word for this tube?

Can you make a connection to this picture?

Many students wondered how butterflies and moths sleep...heres how!

Predators!!! Thank goodness we don't have any of these in the classroom!

What is the scientific word for blending in with the world around them?

Watch this butterfly lay its eggs. They are as small as the head of a pin

After 3 or 4 days, the caterpillars hatch and they EAT, and EAT, and EAT!!

What is the scientific word for shedding its skin?

Today was the volunteer tea. We are so grateful to all those parents and community volunteers that have spent countless hours, moving our learning forward.

We hope you enjoyed our musical celebration!

Reminders: No school tomorrow for students due to PD Day! Have a great long weekend!

In recent weeks, the Little Green Thumbs garden has been flourishing! A sunflower plant has grown to be over two meters high, Peacock Pole beans have been harvested, and students have observed the early growth of some tiny, Tiny Tim tomatoes.

Please view the following photos to check out the growth in the garden

Students were picking all of the dead leaves of the plants and feeding them to our red wriggler worms.

Carefully examine the photo to the left ..... can you find Brady?

Look closely at the head of this sunflower plant and note all the lines of symmetry.

Our first few Tiny Tim tomatoes

This week, students are recording their observations of the different stages of the pumpkin. In the fall, we had saved the 'jack-o-lantern' seeds and planted them a couple of months ago. A beautiful orangish blossom has just bloomed.

As this plant will take a few more months to mature, we hope to transplant it into the new Vista Heights Community Garden later in the month.

Character Corner June Virtue: Thankfulness

Being thankful is appreciating the things you have and the people you care about. It is an attitude of gratitude for learning, loving and living. Focus on the good things in your life. Even when things go wrong, you can be thankful if you find the lessons to be learned. Thankfulness is being aware of the gifts in your life.

Today we talked about the virtue of thankfulness and reflected on the many people and events in our lives for which we are thankful. We also read the book The Thankful Book by Todd Parr.
