This morning, Vista Heights students participated in our first fire drill for the year. The students  practiced lining up, walking through the hall without covering their ears, exiting the school at our designated door, and finally forming a grade 1/2 line on the field. As this was the first fire drill for many of our students, we reminded them that a fire drill is just a practice.

Please ask your child: what should they do if they hear the fire bell ring at school?

Today we read the book,

Ask me about the book....
We learnt how to look after our friends feelings and do not
let anyone hurt them
Why did all the colours become small and and felt a little blue?

How is blue feeling?

Every time Red said something mean and no one spoke up, he got bigg.....

September 15, 2014

Today, our students were very fortunate to watch a presentation by members of the Earth Rangers. We learned about a number of projects that people had been working on to save the habitat of some endangered animals. It was very exciting to see the live animals such as the little armadillo from South America and the soaring peregine falcon.

Students have brought home a brochure which provides information on how students can sigh-up to become an 'Earth Ranger'. If they register they will receive an official card and have access to lots of information on the web site. As this is sponsored by some major Canadian corporations, there is no fee for this service.  To access their web page, please click on the icon above.

 Earth Ranger Megan demonstrated how the Serval African wild cat could jump 3 meters to catch a bird in mid flight.

Please ask your child to describe their favourite parts of the Earth Ranger presentation?
