Has your child visited an eye doctor lately?
A vision-related problem may cause some of the symptoms described below:
  • headaches or irritability
  • avoidance of near or distance work
  • covering or rubbing of the eyes
  • tilting of the head or unusual posture
  • using a finger to maintain place while reading
  • losing place while reading
  • omitting or confusing words when reading
  • performing below their potential
If you notice any of these symptoms, book an eye exam with a Doctor of Optometry.
For Alberta children 18 years old and younger (1–18)  eye examinations are covered if received in Alberta. Optometry benefits are limited to one complete exam, one partial exam, and one diagnostic procedure per benefit year (July 1 to June 30).

Report cards will come home tomorrow after school. Please take a moment to read these with your child. If you require any clarification or support, please feel free to contact your child's classroom teacher.

There will be no school on Friday January 29, 2015 due to professional development day.

Classroom Visit

Today the grade 1\2 classes had a visit from our school Occupational Therapist,Jyoti Roy. Her presentation taught us about the 4 Zones of Regulation.

Jyoti taught us we are all different but that we all go the 4 zones sometimes. She also told us that we never stay in the same zone all day and we will learn how to develop skills to be in the right zone at the right time.

When we are in the GREEN zone we feel "just right" and we can get  our work done.

When we are in the BLUE zone we feel tired and it is often hard to listen.

When we are in the YELLOW zone we often feel very excited and our energy level is very high.

When we are in the RED zone our energy is so high that we start to feel out of control and can't think very well.

Our homework is to think about which zones we go to each day.

Today, Constable Kerri of the Calgary Police Department visited the Grade 1/2 classrooms. She talked about the importance of taking care of each other and how that helped to create safe schools and communities. Constable Kerri shared the tools that she uses as a member of the police force. i.e. flashlights, radios, telephones, handcuffs, etc. The most important tools were using her thinking skills and her five senses to solve problems.

In our classroom, each of us have unique qualities. We use to help ourselves,  others and our communities.

Salah created his cool with the qualities of having courage, caring for others and being helpful.

Ilyar shows cooperation, courage and determination.

Please ask your child to think about some of their qualities
and how they use these in our  learning community.
