Little Green Thumbs Celebration!
After a year of planting, watering, and nurturing our plants, today we ate the fruits of our labour - literally! We celebrated our year of growing, by having a pita snack with some fresh watermelon. Students wore their little green thumbs shirts and enjoyed the fresh snack outside of the school.

We asked our students a very important question....where did all of these ingredients come from?
Where do cucumbers come from?
Where does lettuce come from?
Where do tomatoes come from?
Where does the pita come from?
Where does mustard come from?

The students were given t-shirts from Little Green Thumbs to remind them of all their learning with the gardens throughout the school year - this t-shirt is theirs to keep!

Lion's Club Visit!
We were honoured to have a visit from the wonderful Lions Club Northeast. They came to speak to us about Project Pride. Each student received a flag, a certificate and a letter from their flag.

Mrs. Queen brought in a very cool puzzle for us to work on. We worked collaboratively and put it together!

first we worked in small groups

Then we started joining them together.

Julie put the last piece.

We're done!

The puzzle was the life cycle of a butterfly. Please ask your child to explain it to you.

Message from Calgary Reads
Howdy Friends!

Last year, the first Sunset Breakfast brought over 6,500 folks from all of Calgary to celebrate the spirit of Stampede. This year, for the second year in a row, the Ismaili Community Stampede Breakfast will be held at night. And you're invited! (see invitation below)

This year, we marry the tradition of the Calgary Stampede while observing the holy Muslim Month of Ramadan. The breakfast will be held on Saturday July 4th at 8:30PM with a formal program, a carnival-styled mid-way and activities for the whole family. This year, we are partnering with Calgary Reads, an early childhood literacy organization, to raise awareness about literacy and reading initiatives.

Breakfast will be served at 9:53PM as we break the fast with you!

We promise this will be one of the most unique events of the 2015 Stampede season (See our Calgary Herald documentary from last year, here). We hope you can make it. The event is free

Please feel free to invite friends, family and colleagues.

Mark your calendars for July 4th at 8:30PM

We have been doing an author study on Barbara Reid who is a famous Canadian author and illustrator. She illustrates her picture books in plasticine. We have enjoyed reading her books and viewing the illustrations are very detailed  and colourful. Some of the books we read this week include:

      PICTURE A TREE

          THE PARTY

        subway mouse

We have watched several videos in which Barbara Reid explains her plasticine techniques. We are very excited about making our own plasticine illustrations in the style of Barbara Reid.
You can view her videos with your child to help them plan their project.
