Home Experiments  -   Exploration of Liquids

Though it’s taking place all around us everyday, the process in which water changes into a vapor or gas, never ceases to amaze. If your family is interested in observing this process through two simple experiments, please follow the direction.

1. Covered and Uncovered Containers

Find two identical containers.
Mark a water line on the side of each container with a marker.
Place in a secure area and fill with water to the line.
Place cover over one of the containers.

In the next few days, what do you think will happen?

Keep checking the water levels over the next week.
What are your observations?
What do you think caused these changes?

2. Sun and Shade

Find two identical containers.
Mark a water line on the side of each container with a marker.
Place one container in the direct sunlight and fill with water to the line.
Place the second container in the shade and fill with water.

In the next few days, what do you think will happen?

Keep checking the water levels over the next week.
What are your observations?
What do you think caused these changes?

Here is a fun song to practice with your child!
*to the tune of she'll be coming around the mountain*
